The life that you have
There will be times when you find yourself in extremely difficult circumstances. When those times come, it's important to put things in perspective.
Whatever else may be going on, always remember that you have been blessed with life and the ability to live it as you choose. Think of how completely awesome that is.
The idea that you are a victim of any particular circumstance is simply not accurate. For when you look at the big picture, you're not a victim at all.
You are a very fortunate beneficiary of the greatest circumstance that you could possibly imagine -- being alive and able to direct your own life. All other circumstances pale in comparison.
The transitory ups and downs are merely tiny threads in the overall fabric of your life. Each one ultimately adds to the richness of your experience.
The quality of that experience is up to you, and the fact that you're aware and able to think and act confers on you an incalculable wealth. See it, value and appreciate it, and spend each day being truly worthy of the unique, precious life that you have.
-- Ralph Marston
We all go through difficult times. It is easy to feel like a victim sometimes, but Ralph is right. We are not victims. We are survivors of life. I used to think of myself as a victim growing up. Yes I was victimized by abuse yet the key here is I survived it. That doesn't make me a victim, it makes me a survivor and not only that, as I have traveled along my path and healed the wounds and pain, I am now not only just surviving but thriving as well! How awesome is that?
Many will have ups and downs in life. It's a fact. It's life. That which you go through will only serve to make you stronger and if you can grasp onto the reality that you have many things to be thankful for you can begin to see how truly blessed you are. We all have our burdens to bear, they teach us the lessons we need to learn in life. We may have been victimized at some point in your life however you don't have to stay in that victim mentality. Staying in the victim mode is saying to yourself that you are helpless and you don't have any choices. That simply is not the truth. You always have choices.
Being a survivor means that you are making it and will continue to make it. Sure the road may be tough and a struggle at times, but it is certainly worth fighting for don't you think? When you feel like you can't possibly go on and you feel like giving up, take a look at your situation and identify the things that are going right. It is so easy to jump on that negative train and focus all your attention on the things that are going wrong and perhaps that is why you feel it more. If you think that way, you won't see the good stuff.
Direct your focus and attention to all the things that are going good in your life. Begin to identify the areas that you are blessed in. See it and feel it! Soon you will be uplifted and you can go from feeling like a survivor to thriving! Life is so worth living and it is what we make it. I firmly believe that. It's all about the choices we make, how we choose to think and what we direct our thoughts and feelings to.
Ralph is right- You are alive and you have the ability to direct your own life. The quality of that experience is up to YOU! What are you choosing to do?
